Independent cinema

The independent film defines all of cinema produced outside the media conglomerates and claiming some autonomy in relation to methods of production, and political conventions of popular cinema.

By extension, this category may include the amateur film , the experimental cinema , the guerrilla filmmaking and, to some extent, the kind of movies and some national cinemas as Dogme 95 .

Organizations and events

France

In France , it is defended by the Association for the independent cinema and its diffusion (ACID). There are several independent film channels such as Utopia cinemas or Les Ecrans de Paris circuit .

An international festival of independent cinema has seen its first edition in (2016) at Saint-Miter-les-Remparts 1 .

In the United States , Hollywood cinema is often contrasted with New York independent cinema. Each year takes place in the Utah the Sundance Film Festival , the US independent film festival. Created in 1978, it has been organized since 1985 by the Sundance Institute , a non-profit organization created in 1981 by Robert Redford .
